What if my husband takes a different job?

Hi there.....I am a stepparent to one and have one biological child. Sorry to the parents who don't get anything from their exes...but I am a single parent with a husband it seems and was told by the courts that my kid doesn't matter in the eyes of the court only my stepkid. So, whatever....I work two jobs because hubby can't help me pay for daycare or any other costs because of child support payments, benefits, and extra costs which he pays 65% of. Let's list them...braces, sports, daycamps, overnight camps, and tutoring. In a regular family both parents can just say no to these items (well, not the braces) but not in split situations...whatever kid wants...kid gets. I'm not looking for sympathy, just stating the facts in my eyes.

He faces a terrible commute everyday....if he were to take a lower paying job to be closer to home.....are the courts going to look at him like a deadbeat and order him to pay the amount he is currently paying? What if he were laid off? Does he have to get two or three jobs to afford the lifestyle my stepson is accustomed to in that case?

If he has a good reason for changing jobs, such as long commute, it shouldn't be a problem. The shorter communte should give him more time with all the kids. He should pay on the income he is earning, as long as it is not drastically different, I don't see a problem. The courts however seem very biased towards female custodial parents, and judges all come to different conclusions, so nothing is ever set in stone.

I am a second wife too, so understand the frustrations you are having. We currently pay 80% for 2 sets of braces, which is $280/month, plus 100% of medical dental insurance/month, plus acccess costs of $300/month. The ex wife didn't work for over 8 years, and while an ex-husband could never get away with that, ex-wives get away not working all the time.

As for the problems second families face, look at and sign the petition attached, you are not alone!
