Thought this was interesting....

Canada's best kept secret is that Quebec has more progressive child support laws. Australia has perhaps the fairest support and child tax credit laws that recognize that children have two parents who share the costs of raising a child even if one of them doesn't spend 40% of the time with their kids.

Estimating your child support payments

Canadian Laws (outside Quebec) officially recognize people as parents once they have 40% custody. Interestingly, the many times I have attended family court this past year I've found Judges very generous with access as long as it doesn't get too close the magical 40% threshold.

Happened to me, in fact I got so much access it is above 40% but I am sure if I complain they will just reduce my access. I'm gonna try anyways to confirm my theory.

I will add that if one spouse is outside of Quebec and one inside quebec then the Tyrannical National Guidelines Apply.

Have a friend who moved to Brazil some 18 yrs ago. He had taken an early buy-out from a company and said he was set for life. I heard for years how wonderful it was there and how inexpensive it was to live there. I went to visit and found it to be a rather dirty place but I could see how a guy would like it as women are poorly regarded and it's quite common and acceptable for a guy to have a wife, girlfriend, mistress (at the same time). Generally a great place for guys but not so good for the women (I am to understand that women outnumber men approx 4 to 1).

Through the years I started to hear some grumbling about how much the import taxes are on everything. I always heard about how low the taxes were, booze, housing cheap etc.

Well fast forward to today and this old friend is broke. The party is over. He and his much younger common-law spouse are not doing very well. His health and investments are gone and he is now trying to figure out how to live on his meagre CPP. His beautiful spouse has never worked a day in her life. They soon will not have enough money to pay for the very expensive health care.

While some countries may seem to be a very cool place to live, be sure to check out their health and social programs before you make the move. If a country is severely in debt invariably it is because taxes do not support the social programs (as in Quebec and many European countries).

Just to demystify some myths about Brazil from personal experience

I heard for years how wonderful it was there and how inexpensive it was to live there.

It depends on what kind of spectacles you have on at the time I guess i.e. vacation rosy-tinted ones, or the spend an amount of time there and experience day 2 day life

found it to be a rather dirty place

The same can be said for some places here in Canada. Brazil unfortunately has a lot of Flavelas (slums), crime is rampant in the form of looting, car jacks, muggings etc especially in Rocinha and Brasilia

However, if you venture into Sao Paolo and parts of Rio de janeiro...you will find affluent neighborhoods like Leblon, Ipanema and Lagoa

Generally a great place for guys but not so good for the women (I am to understand that women outnumber men approx 4 to 1).

True...great beach volley players though :)

If a country is severely in debt invariably it is because taxes do not support the social programs (as in Quebec and many European countries).

You mean like the following places:

1. the US debt to China

2. Cyprus
3. Greece
4.Ireland

Ireland seems to have got itself out of bankruptcy though<--------

I was in Sao Paulo and Recife. I didn't stay at a resort. The descriptions of how wonderful life was there was that of my friend not my personal observation. First thing that happened to me when I got off plane and was waiting in line for lost luggage was to be abruptly told to go to the end of the line, behind the men. When I was in a restaurant with my husband the waiter took my order only after my husband nodded his head in approval. Same thing for hotel (Sheraton no less) even though we were using my credit card. My significant-other was quite amused by the whole thing.

When you live in one of these countries you can forget getting the latest gadgetry (computers or peripherals etc) unless you are prepared to pay a whopping 60% import tax. Who knows, maybe the country is onto something smart by promoting local products?

Standard health care which would be similar to what you would get in Canada costs around 600 - 800.00/month.

Oh and forget about nice beaches. Post cards don't show the pollution. It's downright disgusting.

BIG child support

BIG child support

Links this one is for you:

Moors v Moors, 2013 ABQB 740

Now this is what I call "substantial child support"

In Canada (Not Quebec). Good thing if you're female

I just read this decision and it's a prime example of how the judiciary in Canada is willfully blind to the flaws in the Canadian method of calculating child support. How could a parent possibly spend this much money solely on a child each month? This man is obviously very rich and has resigned himself to the fact that this is after tax alimony. Still, this has to sting at the end of every month. I can see this woman doing whatever it takes to ensure these payments continue well into the daughter's adult life.

Yes....and all it takes is one night of "passion". See why there will always be people lining up to get in on some of that action

Should have found someone in his own tax bracket

I can see this woman doing whatever it takes to ensure these payments continue well into the daughter's adult life.
Yes....It like discovering a "cash cow"

As an aside: some weird show is on SLICE TV right now, it's people that have declared their love for all sort different thing:

1. There is a woman that has falling in love with a crane, she talks about the crane light winking at her, she just climbed to the top of it and is now kissing it

2. A woman that is in love with the statue of liberty...she goes into the deep romantic description of what they do to each other

3. A guy in love with a sound organ...he is talking intimately about this organ i.e. the first time they met etc

I am not going to judge, it will be so wrong of me to do that! I mean am in love with the members of this forum...I consider you all family being that we are all in the same boat

But the question has to be asked....is there going to be a chance of any support payment claims in the future?
