Can someone claim on their taxes to have paid their mother (child's grandma) thousands in child care when the grandma lives with child and grandchild? Child is 10 years old.
 
She may claim the mother as child care provider, as long as the mother is not also being claimed as a dependant. (For example if she is elderly, infirm, etc.)

However the (grand)mother must also declare the money as income, and pay tax on it.

The (grand)mother must provide receipts. A written receipt from a receipt book is fine. She must keep the receipt book as a record of her income.
 
I don't believe you can claim daycare expenses paid to family members, but I'm not sure if CRA would count as grandmother as a family member for this particular purpose.

You really need to check with CRA, if you want a definite answer particular to your circumstances.

If an "individual" is providing the child care services, then that person can't be the "mother", "father", or a "supporting person". So you should check with CRA, if Grandma would be considered a "supporting person" in your circumstances.

If either of the parents or a "supporting person" claimed Grandma on any of these lines; line 305, 306, 315, or 367 of Schedule 1...then Grandma's child care costs could not be claimed.

It sounds like you are not talking about your own tax situation.
