I have been married for 12 years, we are talking about a split.
It's very amicable right now
We have no kids
I am the primary income winner, although it has allowed my wife to go out and open a successful business

I am curious about what are the next steps in figuring out what kind of alimony is she entitled to

Sorry to hear that. Thankfully you have no children involved and it's amicable, so it should be simpler.

There are some guidelines, you can find the links. It's called Spousal Support Guidelines. Basically, she will earn 40 to 45% of the marital income. So, if you make 75k and she makes 25k, you have to pay spousal support to bring her up between 40 and 45k.

Also, it'll be for a minimum of half the marriage length to a max of the marriage length. So, chances are, it'll be for around 6 years.

And, you have to figure out how to divide your assets. There's your RRSP, CPP, company pension plus all the normal assets. Best thing to do is to do a balance sheet and decide who gets what.
