well was in court today and like i suspected my ex is liaible for not ensuring our learning disabled child applied for all grants and bursaries he was entitled to. she was quite annoyed that my ex didnt' come to court today she told his lawyer she had very specific questions for him that will now have to wait until the settlement conference. The fact that he never answered any of my emails when i was asking for status of the applications and if they had even applied is another factor that didnt help his cause. In addition that now he is refusing to provide me academic information ref my son didnt help either. she pointed out that there is case law out there where a parent that was exempted to pay because the custodial parent and the child refused to provide that parent with schooling information.

when she questioned the lawyer ref why these grants and bursaries weren't applied for he said that Logan is an adult child and is responsible for doing this. Then he also said that Logan is a child with LD's and ADHD and gets easily stressed about school and life so its hard for him to which she answered the father should have been proacticve and helped him apply he should have parented like a custodial parent should.

the one thing that i was a little upset about today is the RESP that i started for my kids to count as my contribution to their education she says its their money so it comes off as their contribution to their education. that i'm having a hard time wrapping my head around that because my ex that never invested one penny now gets to benefit from the money i invested and he makes double what i make.

the judge did say that iwth my income and my ex's income combined that the child is expected to contribute his share to his education that the parents aren't responsible for the whole thing on their own. So that i am quite happy with.
 
For people to understand that having a child LD requires parenst to step in fo assist on these types of things. I have a child with LD and I filled the forms otherwise I would be in the same situation, grants for LD are given if you have a assesment or letter from phsychologist and OP did mentioned that.


This meant it was a garanteed for the LD grant of 1000 per session plus Ontario gives 30% grant and loan base on the education cost. These are pretty easy to get as long you filled the forms.

More the child is also entitled to support and assistance including additionnal time to complete exam.

The father to me was responsible to do it that even could have be done with the unversity as they have staff that does that assist students to fill these forms. No money, no school the kid need also to realise this.
 
yup my son has the evalution and has an O/T one too i went as far as hired an educational advocate to represent him in 2008 cause the school and school board weren't supplying him with the help he was entitled to. my ex never lifted one finger to help me when i asked ... i was quite happy when the judge said what she said and told his lawyer that the ex the custodial parent was responsible.

after he went to live with dad his marks at school went down ... school was callign me but my hands were tied because my ex told my son i had n power over him.... so whatever i said ... dindt matter.... anyway he's responsible and i'm pleased he is i know now for next year they will smarten up and apply cuase then he'll be on the hook again..

do you know about the disability web site with all the awards ? www.disabilityawards.ca is the link its amazing. my son was eligible to apply for 16,500 worth of money just from that website alone and they didnt apply thats not including osap and fed grants
 
I am not familiar with that web site, I personally only used the OASP application and it covers the disability grant. In Ontario, it is all integrated as you only applied through OSAP.

The amount of money may vary, depending on the school tuition cost, and cost for the accommodations required. By applying the school got automatically notified and approached my D to offer various services.

For the funding, I got enough to cover the tuition cost and books plus she has an RESP who covers the rest. My ex does not have to contribute anything.

The main thing for me was the accommodation as that enable her to be successful and have a chance at a future.
