Shared custody...what should CS cover?

hockey $350 /year + some equipment (say $150 more)

Where do your kids play hockey in this country for just $350 and $150 in equipment a year? That is about what it costs to register a child in tykes Hockey program with Hockey Canada roughly To equip a tyke in new equipment is $400 last time I did the calculations off a flyer. It only goes up form there as the children get older (or better).

Minor hockey costs add up; Canadians keep paying - The Globe and Mail

“I’m just like an ostrich, head in the sand,” one wrote. “I’m sure it is [$10,000 to $15,000]a season for one AAA-novice son. The gas gets us, as we live almost two hours from the arena.”

Good Luck!

There is no clear definition for minor vs. special expenses for activities and sports. This will vary from family to family, and depends a lot on total income. My rule of thumb is to use the $100 amount that is stated for medical expenses as a guideline for this. If swimming lessons are <$100 per month, then I wouldn't call them extraordinary.

The $100 amount stated in the guidelines for medical is $100 annually, not $100 monthly for sports (like you stated above). However I agree your train of thought makes sense and is fair, I can't seem to find anything in writting that $100 per month average for a child's extra-curricular sports is considered an ordinary expense and is split 50/50 by the parents, not proportionally by income (as stated in the guidelines as a special extra-ordinary expense.

Good question - my S15 plays AAA and I have over $11,000 in receipts - and I KNOW I am missing a few - $700 for two hockey sticks that I know of for sure.

House league for the littlest of players where I am from costs $400 per season. Equipment is extra.

I think the amount may be more than you think....

From 2003 to my interim order in 2005 I received nothing from my ex in terms of CS, SS, or S7s. From 2005 to 2013 when I got my final order he paid symbolically sometimes. I now get CS and an averaged out amount for S7s thru FRO.

Throughout the ex made ok money working the job he continues to hold today. Much of this time I had zero employment income, staying home to care for my youngest child who is special needs and put myself thru college to supplement my university degree so I could get a decent job when my youngest started school full time (I am now employed).

Yes, I paid daycare exclusively for three-ish years (even when care was fully subsidized but I needed ex to provide mortgage statements for the mat home to prove eligibility... Which he didn't), for braces, for various therapies, etc. Do I think it was/is "right"? No, but that is what you do as a parent. You provide for you kid(s).

My focus is and always will be moving forward, that is what matters, not complaining or bashing the ex. Not an ideal solution, what I have done is to work S7 into my payment from FRO. Work out the average S7 expenses over a year, divide it by 12 months, and add that amount to your payment and be grateful that you are getting some contribution. The trouble I have now is how to keep this calculation up-to-date and how to ensure ex submits health claim forms when I try to coordinate benefits.

If anyone else can offer a better solution that has worked for them I'm all ears.
