Medical Care and Access

I have access to my son, and she has sole custody. Has anyone ever tried or had a clause that allowed for you to decide medical care while you have access? (and a clause that states she must provide a health card while the child is in your care). We live 3 hours apart and I have him all summer, do I have rights to medical care without her consent? or do I need her consent? We do not get along and I have offered dental etc and she has said no. Any ideas/advice would be great!!
 
don't worry about it. If the kid needs dental help, just take him to the dentist, that doesn't require health card. (I'm doing the same. wtf mom can do? Is she going to put back the tartar after my daughter's teeth was cleaned? Or take me to the court for having a dental checkup for my daughter?)
If mom rejects a bigger and NECESSARY health procedure, you can take her to the court.
If the kid has an accident while he is with you he will get the emergency treatment without the health card anyways.
So ask for the card or at least the copy of it just in case of emergency, but kind of pointless to fight over it.
 
I agree that it is pointless to fight over. I did ask for a copy and got nothing. She would do anything to make my life more difficult though that's why I like things in writing.
 
For what it's worth, I was able to get a duplicate health care card for my kid by going to a registry office with her birth certificate and my driver's license (proof of ID). It cost a small fee (about $20, I think) and was mailed to me within a couple of weeks. People lose health care cards all the time, so there are procedures for replacing them. This might be easier than trying to get your ex to give you the card. This may vary from province to province, of course.
 
Stripes, can you clarify if you got a duplicate card or a replacement card? I ask because my ex went and got 'another' card for one's our kids rather than asking for the one we already had and I only found out when I tried to use the original at the emergency room and it was invalid.
 
I to am curious about that! as from what I see in Ontario you may only have one health card. I do not want to stir things up....however it is very frustrating when she limits everything when I am just trying to be a good parent. If it isn't in writing it is a big flat no, even if it were to benefit him and to me it would be easier to have it in writing then to just do it and her flip out.
 
I'm not in Ontario, so things may be different in terms of duplicates or replacement cards. It was a while ago, so I don't remember if I asked for a duplicate or a replacement - I think I just said I needed a copy of the card for my kid (birth certificate plus my ID showing my request was legitimate). As far as I know, the existence of two cards hasn't caused a problem (i.e. I haven't heard from my ex that he's had any trouble using the original card since I obtained the second one). However, Kid hasn't needed to see any doctor outside the clinic where our family doctor works, where they have all her info on file already, so it's possible no one has ever asked my ex to show the card, if that makes sense.

In Ontario you can only habe 1 health card. if you go and request a health card the old one becomes void.

That being said if I have reasonably requested a health card and have been ignored then I would feel quite justified to order a new one and let her ask for it. Maybe pointing out you did so and giving it to her and informing her that if she persisits in ignoring your request to provide the health card you will simply get a new one again.
 
I agree with that...with her if it doesn't state she has to do it she just won't. ..that is why I wondered about having it put in the order then it cannot be fought over as we live 3 hours apart and last time I has to take him to the doctor I has to pay because she refuses to send it...
