Periodic means an amount paid monthly (or weekly, or biweekely etc.) as opposed to in a lump sum. Source: Google "periodic spousal support".

Thankyou. does indexing mean same as periodic? we received docs saying periodic SS and indexing of SS. this is a new claim so we are a little confused
 
Indexing relates to the amount of the payment. Quoting from the prior response "It means that support payments are adjusted (usually yearly) in accordance with the rate of inflation. So, if you pay $1000 per month in year 1 and in year 2, the inflation rate is 2%, then your support payments would change to $1,020 per month"

Periodic refers to the frequency of payment, not the amount.
