Income and Spousal Support

After I separated, I started paying my Ex spousal support. A couple of years later... the final separation agreement had a higher amount of SS than I had been paying. Back SS was to be paid from the proceeds of the sale of the marital home which has happened.

I've already claimed the original amount of SS as a deduction on my income tax.

Does anyone know how I can or should claim the lump sum? Do I refile the last couple of years returns as if I had paid the extra SS in those years? Do I file it as extra SS for this year's return? Or am I screwed in some way?

Thanks!

I have had this issue twice. Both times support was claimed in the year paid (even though they were intended to clear arrears from previous years).

Just tally actual monies paid in 2017 and claim that amount.

ah man I got too excited I would get to flame another chick wanting to get SS - oh wait she already is getting it.

advise above sounds about right.
