How does FRO work?

Hi. My court order is finally signed and will be sent to FRO but it will be 2 to 3 months before they send out the paperwork.

I can't seem to get a straight answer on whether or not I should continue to pay my ex directly until the paperwork comes or not.

Their website says do not pay directly or it will cost me $100 to adjust. But my lawyer says that when I get the paperwork they will ask me how many payments I've made and if I show them the cashed cheques, they will adjust it.

I've tried calling but the girl on the phone did not seem confident in her answer.

Has anyone gone through FRO and know the right answer?

Thanks!

I wasn't told by my ex that she was filing with FRO, she decided to do it despite an agreement not to. When they contacted me it was about three months after she filed, and I just told them I was up to date, and they verified with her that I was, and that was that.

I would continue to pay her, of course by a traceable means (no cash). Keep your records of those payments handy in case of dispute.

Perfect, thanks. I will continue to pay him then.

Until you get the paperwork from FRO, continue to pay (by traceable means).

Once you get the official forms from FRO indicating they are involved, STOP PAYMENT to your ex.

Yes, this means your ex will go without for 6-8 weeks until the FRO process gets moving.

Bank the amount you should be paying and when FRO finally gears up, you pay THEM.

This is correct.

You can also call FRO and ask them because in my case, my ex paid FRO and they basically held the money in trust until all our forms were in and then matched up the money with the correct account numbers and sent me a lump sum for the 5 months it took.

^ affirmative

Continue to pay by traceable means and it will all get adjusted and accounted for on a Statement..

Keep all your records and it should be fine.
