How does child support get impacted if one child has a job?

16 year old has a part time job and parents are going through a divorce.

In this case the father doesn’t want to pay child support bc he argues she’s working.

I tried to do a search for this info but the results came back for parents who are working and not the kid.

It doesn’t matter if kid is working. Child support is paid until 18 and then continues until they are done school.

Direct them to the federal child support guidelines. Those are pretty clear.

Once a kid goes to post-secondary education the game changes. Prior to that they could make 1 billion dollars and you would still be obligated to pay support.

The money earned while 16 and onward from a job will be considered when determining the child's contribution to their post-secondary education expenses. So they should be saving to cover at minimum 1/3 the total cost of their post-secondary education... Their previous taxable income will be considered as part of their ability to contribute in the s7 determination.
