My former husband had been in an on again off again relationship with a woman for the past 15 years or so... they did get married however this was very short lived I should start off by saying that this woman is very controlling and "thinks" she has some sort of educational background that she tries using on us all the time (she has never obtained a job in the schooling background she got)...anyways in Nov 2002 "A" wrote up this separation agreement on her own and put down stipulations to benefit herself mostly...some of the stipulations she wrote down she herself has never fallen through with, example getting life insurance for the kids... however after looking over this copy I feel she has gone way overboard in her demands for her "future control" over my husband..for example she put down that she is to remain the beneficiary of the current life and accident insurance or the beneficiary of any additional insurance owned by ****...she also stated that she agrees not to purse any share of retirement investments...she has been paid 1/2 of the RRSP's they had...I went with my husband a few weeks ago and he changed his beneficiary to my name regarding his mutual funds etc as well as he changed the beneficiary to my name for his group savings and retirment plan...I should mention that at the time the agreement was made up this woman had ended the relationship to be with some other person and thus sending my husband to the hospital for a couple weeks because he developed such depression over the breakup..she had him sign the papers which he did the day he got out of the hospital and they had a mutal friend witness this....so again my question is how binding is this agreement if they had no "big wig" look it over?
How binding are "self made contracts?"
