Grade 13 Ontario

I have a daughter who has decided to take grade 13 in school, in order to get the prerequisites required to be accepted into a specific university program. Her father and I have joint custody and child support is currently paid. She is now 18.

My question is whether child support is payable for this "victory lap" year at high school as in know grade 13 is not as typical nowadays and I want to be certain.

Thanks

If she is in school full time then yes it is covered. If not, it is not covered.

Courts have been viewing gap year school as paid if in full time programming.

Thank you, I wasn't sure. As far as full time, I'm assuming that means 3 courses per semester?

Also, a co-op placement would equal one course?

I feel like she's doing a course plus coop each semester, as well as working more hours at her job to save up money.

If it is required for university then it would be ordered. If for some reason she stops the program or is not in co-op, support would stop.

My husband went through this. It was paid because he was told kid was in school but when it came out in court that kid dropped the courses and was working, the support was credited as an overpayment. The judge laid out that a gap year in school for a pre requisite program is considered required.
