neverending

My ex keeps claiming that he is being "let go" from employers once they are informed he is involved with FRO! He wrote me a text msg the other day - again claiming that the moment he mentioned that FRO would be sending in a package for garnishment, he ended up being let go.
Have you ever heard of this?????

I told my ex that if he felt he was being treated unfairly due to FRO that he should be calling his case working and discussing it with him... no response!

It doesn't really make sense. FRO deducts money from thousands of ppl's cheques. Work places are familiar with the process and their payroll depts are presumably trained to deal with it. Is it a really small company? I don't know - it sounds a little sketchy.

I can't wait to see how they deal with my ex. That's happening soon. He is SELF-employed. Hopefully that's not going to seriously hold things up. I already know he's not going to co-operate.

My ex tried everything to get out of FRO, even changing jobs without informing them. I solved that issue by having him sign a direct debt form at FRO. His payments now come directly out of his bank account and his employer doesn't need to know a thing. If he withdrawls the permission his employer will then be informed and garnishment will resume. He chose to have the payment taken weekly which works for me just fine. Means I don't have to wait to get CS.

As far as being fired for being in FRO. I think he's full of shit. I know that most people thing poorly of payors using FRO because they assume they are a dead beat. Maybe he doesn't like the stigma surrounding it. My current husband registered in FRO against his exes wishes because she was cashing 3 months worth of CS cheques at a time. It was the only solution to get her to stop playing games with his money.

good luck

I did mention that to him, letting him know that the companies he is talking about (there are 3 apparently) are big companies - the last one imparticular employes thousands of people. I reminded him that being let go becuz of FRO is illegal and if he felt he was being mistreated then he should call his case worker - or better yet, bring forth a case against FRO. He said that one of the companies let him go becuz FRO threatened to take them to court if they didn't cooperate!!!!
I spoke with my case manager who insisted that FRO's involvement should hold no responsibility for his job loss, and infact employers are encouraged to cooperate with FRO so that "children" are supported. My case worked also stated that at no time has my ex made contact with them regarding this concern...
He has been trying HARD to be self employeed - lord help me if that ever happens!
The FRO case manager expressed that this excuse is typical for parents who choose to run from their responsibilities, and jump from job to job. VERY FRUSTRATING!

how on earth did you get your ex to agree to bank withdrawl... I can't even trust my ex will deposit money in to his account. And when he jumps from job to job and claims that he is unemployed - then what! My ex has a pattern.. he gets employed, he doesnt tell me or FRO about the job.. he collects every cent. I end up finding out, I contact him, I also contact FRO and then as soon as FRO send off the garnish letter... he is gone! UGH!!!
This crap has been on going for almost 5 years!!!

Jeez. What a pain. Yeah there's noooo way my ex would agree to it coming out of his bank a/c every week. Can't trust him anyway. I have only one hope in this. Good, bad or ugly - my only hope is FRO's involvement.

Neverending: how do you feel about dealing w/the Fro? Are they as helpful as they possibly can be, given your circumstances? Does your case worker respond to you fairly quickly and does she seem totally well versed w/regards to your case? I'm thinking my ex is going to be rude with FRO. Initially, he will ignore them. If/when the time comes that his license gets suspended - if I know he is still driving - do I call them and tell them that? Is it just hit and miss at that point? That he drives along his merry old way and if he gets stopped by police then he's screwed yes, but if he is not stopped, he just carries on with his day?

Your situation IS frustrating! Why isn't his SIN # in a database that FRO can flag (get alerted) when he's changed jobs? Something like that would certainly throw a wrench into his "pattern"

I agree! Our court order states that he is to contribute to child care and sec7 expenses, but he won't.. .so back to court we go in February so that I can just submit receipts to FRO instead of me having to deal with him. He isn't paying now... so what really matters if he continues to go into arrears. At least I have submitted and done my part.

The bottom line is that FRO needs to take action. I would talk to your worker about it and ask them to start proceedings. If he isn't going to pay then I guess he doesn't mind having his license taken away or jail time.

I also know that when I submitted a statement of arrears via FRO they in turn mail my ex a copy. This is another way to confirm that you tried to give them to him.

I have been fortunate and have a FRO case worker who is very friendly, cooperative, informative and seems on top of things. My ex has had the whole license suspention letter sent to him... but "poof" when that comes he manages to get employed, just in the nick of time...
I was told that if he were to drive without a lisence I am to contact the Police..? Apparently if he drives without a license ans he is in an accident with our children in the car.. then his insurance company (hope he even has insurance) possibly would't accept the claim. Not sure if this is 100% accurate though.
As far as the SIN # thing... I have never heard of this being an option... frommy understanding FRO isnt an investigation organization - they are just the collectors.

FRO already has too much power and with their new phone system it is immpossible to get hold of a human being. the only option i have found is to scour the intenet for names [they never give one] and get hold of a supervisor via email
once this occurred i found them helpful and respectful. I am a payor btw but of an offset amount as my elder daughter now lives with me.
FRO is antiquated, bureaucratic and its workers for the most part have too much power and too little knowledge.
i actually empathize with the payors in this story as they are only trying to fight back against a system stacked against them.

When he recd the license suspension notice, there's a 1st warning and a final one. In any case - to keep the license from being suspended - he would have to pay up all arrears or apply to the court for a refraining order (from the suspension) and would then have to pay all the arrears or enter into fro's VAP program. Voluntary Arrears Pymt over an agreed upon amount of time, accepted by FRO and I would think, the recipient.

My ex already knows how far he is in arrears.. his attitude is "whatever". FRO is only the collector and the enforcer on a few things.. lisence suspentions, garnishments %'s etc. They are not going to take my ex to court becuz he says he is not employed. They only can do what they can when he informs them of employment. They too have to follow court order's.

your empathy should certainly NoT be for the payor here... He knows his responsibility to his children, yet he is refusing! Your empathy should be for our children. Your statement "i actually empathize with the payors in this story as they are only trying to fight back against a system stacked against them"... fighting back by holding out on his children is disturbing! It can be a system that works well for both parties.

yes it can be - but is not. never have i said or indicated anyone is holding out on their children, but a payor has a right to provide for his [or rearely ] her children as well - or new families. FRO is more often than not used as a tool against an payor as opposed to a tool for the children.

empathy for a man who IS holding out on his children, that is sad. We could back and forth this all day - but I won't. Both parents have a resposibility to their children, and when one decides he/she doesnt want to - or feel he/she shouldn't have to help - then all of a sudden the world is out to get them. Ridiculous!!!

I'm sorry but I do take issue with responses that state:

"but a payor has a right to provide for his [or rearely ] her children as well - or new families"

Does this give justification to suddenly stop providing support for your previous children beacuse you know have new ones and a new family...

Your responsibilities for your children does not change if you suddenly have a new family. If you decide to have a new family then you should look at how you can provide for all as responsible parents prior to having a new family.

I have an ex who is trying to use that statement that she can not pay CS since she has a new family and child and it would be a hardship. So with that logic it would be ok to abandoned her first childern since she has decided to move on and have a new family.

Sorry - my rant...

Yes, very ridiculous. Let's all empathize with the deadbeats. If they were normal and responsible in the 1st place - there wouldn't be a problem and there would be no need to enforce anything. What a wonderful world it would be. Let's get back to reality, shall we?

And if the payor decides to have 5 more kids w/another partner - great. But he had better have a good job b/c all of his children are entitled to support. It may seem convenient to forget about one family, and start creating new ones, but the entitlement of the first family does not disappear. Dav66: YOU are the perfect illustration of why FRO is a very valuable and much needed agency. Empathy? There is none here for any parent who is not being responsible, financially or otherwise.

Good Rant Frustrated Dad. If these ppl (m or f) can't afford to take care of their older kids b/c they decide to KEEP having MORE kids?! How insane is that? FRO is more often used as a Tool against payors than it is for the benefit of children?? I couldn't care less who my ex is with, and if he keeps on having more kids - good for him - but not while he's skipping out on his responsibilities to my son. We have been through an awful time as a result of his lies, greed and total bs that kept us in Court for 3 years. I can assure you, I would've rather avoided all of it. But since he's not Normal or Responsible, I had no choice and if FRO can enforce the court order so that my son gets what he's entitled to - Child Support - then FRO can be a tool in the process of ensuring that ex's obligations are met. Action. Reaction. If he wants to keep his License etc then he knows where to send the money, on time.
