Finances regarding matrimonial home

I have been separated from my husband for one year and three months. I moved into another home and am paying rent on a monthly basis along with utilities and other home related costs. My husband is still living in the matrimonial home. Am I responsible for paying property taxes, utilities and other house related expenses relative to the matrimonial home since the time of our separation? Sara

if your name is on the house then you should pay half the mortgage and property taxes. The utilities and cable etc he should be responsible for himself. Iam not sure if you are legally reguired to do it though.

If you do not want to pay then get the house issue settled by either selling to hiim or putting it on the market together. Either way get your equity out of it and your name off it.

There are several ways to look at this one, the obvious answer is as above, sell it to him, or put it on the market.

However there are several other options, if you pay half mortgage and taxes then he should pay market value rent, or you could agree that you do not pay anything towards the house, appraise the value at time of seperation and when the house sells you get your half based on that that appraisal.

The obvious and most simple thing would be for him to buy you out if he wishes to remain there it ist ime after a year.

Finances regarding matrimonial home

Thank you for your responses. The house has been on the market and we recently accepted an offer. I just thought that since he is occupying the home and has been since June 2008, he should be responsible for all expenses even if my name is on the home ownership. To have to pay half of the property taxes and mortgage while he is living in the home provides undue hardship on myself and our daughter since I am currently renting another home, and paying utilities and other associated home expenditures.
