Jeez.

Quoted from the linked article,
"The pair met on the dating website Plenty of Fish and got engaged three weeks later. They were together for about 20 months."

That explains a lot.

Someone asked the following question in the comments section

Why is it that, in a feminist world (or feminist North America, at least), we still discriminate against MEN this way?

Why must a man buy a woman an engagement ring? Why doesn't SHE buy the ring?

How about they just go 50/50?

Better idea...don't get married again ;) no ring.

I have told everyone that knows me, and given them authorization / consent....to tie me up, kick me and slap me stupid if they ever hear me say am getting married :D

From here on, am just James Bond....have a companion, do travels, movies, galleries and musems, running, hiking et al and the odd sleepover, but go back to your own place after ;)

She also disputes Zampieri's claim that he was willing to give her one of his kidneys.

"I asked him, he said no.”

What is wrong with people? Honestly, after such a short time together she should give back the ring - at the very least they should sell it and split the proceeds.

I'd rather lie in the road, wait for a steamroller and be hung on a close-line than get married again!!!

Really...what a bold statement, did you say that with a straight face? :D

I know right...the guy probably thought he "landed a big one" when he threw his bait on plenty of fish, it turns out it was a gold digger masquerading as a BARRACUDA :D

The speed at which he proposed too....wow

"Really...what a bold statement, did you say that with a straight face?"

Look at my avatar, what do you see? No, I wasn't serious about the clothes line.

Concerning the OP and the ring question, people who go searching for love on a website called 'to many fish" are bound to run into trouble ... stands to reason - there's so many of them because nobody else wants them :D

Same goes for match.com, lavalife and the likes.....Those sites do however serve a purpose, for quick hookup shags and move on i.e. no strings attached.

It's the only choice for some people, especially if they are the "homebody" type, that don't like going out and meeting people..i.e. volunteering, hobby clubs etc

The best man at my wedding met someone from lavalife, and married her, and they are still happily married with kids ten years later. So much for your theory.

Yes, those sites are fine for book 'em and snook 'em purposes, though a person would have better odds at winning the lottery than finding a so-called soulmate.

It's not the only choice for 'homebody' types who, by the way are not anti-social at all, they simply don't like crowds - big difference.

I'll be damned, so you speak for them all?...you could have fooled me :D

I laugh when people say Toronto is huge

Yes...but it's only been 10yrs hasn't it. Next you are going to claim that you know what goes on in their bedroom, and how they are happily married?

Perhaps buddy is scared to up and leave because of CS or vice versa, she thinks she can't do better considering she had to go online in the first place

I think what we've heard on here about how long some people were married (20 odd, 30 odd, and the 43 yrs I heard about recently) pretty much speaks for itself about divorces

Come back in 10yrs and tell me they are still going strong...I won't hold my breathe on that though

A few things we know from watching that video of their argument spilling onto the streets.....

a. The woman said she is $400k in debt since meeting the guy..how is that in the small amount of time they were together?

b. There are no kids caught in this melee'...thank God

c. It's clear that she is way out of the guy's league, but someone he thought her intentions were good

d. Now that we know who she is, any man will be crazy to want to get involved with her, knowing far too well the baggage she comes with, and where you can expect your funds to go

New Tiffany's flagship store opens on Bloor Toronto

Put a ring on it....NO THANK YOU, why don't you? LOL

I guess I'm old fashioned.

The ring is hers. Period. It was a gift, and now he wants it back?

I understand in the moment one call feel that way, but it's wrong - in my humble opinion.

^^^^Yes...welcome to 2013^^^^^

Am guessing when the ring was presented, the question must have gone like this.....

Bald short guy: would you do me a favour and make me the happiest guy on POF?

Fake Blonde gold digger 400k in debt: Yes

So if the marriage isn't going as planned, it's only right that she gives it back

When I caught the clip on TV I believe the female mentioned something about business debt which would leave me with the impression that there is more to the issue than a mere engagement ring. Yes, someone can indeed step into massive debt quickly by simply entering into a business which goes 'south.'

I suspect this is a case of the media manipulating the story for ratings.

My opinion is that if you give someone a gift you shouldn't expect to get it back. Does that make me a gold digger? Hardly.

I ask again, when you give someone "an engagement ring" and go through the whole proposal..what is it that you are doing, and what is the response if the ring is accepted?

If the answer is to get married, and you don't follow through, you have broken the agreement period.

We are not talking xmas gifts here

So you are saying an engagement ring has an implied contract? What happens if one person says it was a "token of affection" and not an engagement ring? I know many gals who have received very expensive pieces of jewelry while dating and I don't believe they returned the jewelry when the relationship ended. Some people buy the g/f or b/f expensive club memberships, trips etc. I don't think I've ever heard of an accounting of things at the end of the courtship.

I guess people have to get written receipts when they give gifts if they expect them to be returned....
