Has anyone out there resolved through mediation? I would like to know what kind of costs we are looking at. Also the cost to have a lawyer look over the agreement before signing.

I called mediators in my area, found a variety from one lovely lady who said we could get everything sorted quickly if we agreed almost everything beforehand, it could be around $1000, to another who wanted a $5000 retainer. I don't know about lawyers fees yet. Hope this helps

The local court mediation office in my area told me that mediation costs are varied/ subsidized based on each persons income, but costs could get as high as $30 per hour.... Each party pays their own bill.
Which is much better than the $350 per hour that the family law leeches will steal from you
In my experience, a Lawyer wont charge less than $500 to review even the most straightforward agreement.

My mediation was based on income. I make about $50K/year and had to pay $70/hr. The ex was unemployed and paid like $10/hr. That'll give you a basic idea, hopefully.
Cheaper than a lawyer for sure, but ultimately you still need legal advice as there were things asked of me in mediation my lawyer would never have conceded to. It's a good option if you have a few nagging issues still outstanding and/or both parties are halfway reasonable. Sadly, this is often not the case.

talked to some more mediators in my area, maybe it depends on where you live? can't find anything cheaper than $150 an hour, but that is to be split between the two of you. One mediator is $200 an hour, but she has a semi retired lawyer friend who charges a flat fee of $250 to do his part, which is the best I've heard so far. Good luck to you too, all this stuff is bad enough wihtout having to spend a fortune to get what you need!!!!!
