Buying a house after divorce, what can my ex do to me?

I'm not sure if I'm posting this in the right forum, please correct me if I need to post this elsehwere.

My ex and I have been seperated for just over two years, our divorce became final December 23, 2010. My boyfriend and I would eventually like to get married and buy a house together.

My question is....can my ex come after me for any money or rights to anything (such as house, new car, etc.) if we are to go ahead with our future plans?

My ex spends his days (he doesn't work...living on WSIB) on the internet searching for ways to "get" people...or more to the point...ways to get money from people so if there's a loophole that would allow him to come after me for anything I buy he will be the one to find it.

He has 6 years from the time of separation to seek equalization. If 6 years go by and the two of you have ignored it then from a legal standpoint you are settled.

If he has sought equalization but the case drags on then the time limit does not apply.

If you have completed equalization then you should have a signed separation agreement indicating this and ideally it should be signed by both of your lawyers indicating you each received independent legal advice, it should also be filed with the courts. However even if not, if you have records of having performed the equalization, done financial disclosure etc then there is really nothing he will accomplish by reopening it.

If you made a fraudulent financial disclosure the courts will reopen the agreement, but the amounts need to be "substantial". My ex left about 20K off of her financial disclosure, I was going to waive equalization anyway (we had no matrimonial home, we rented) and my lawyer said that 20k wasn't significant enough to reopen.

If you buy a house after divorce he can't under any circumstances "go after it" but if there is a possibility you owed him money previously he has 6 years to seek equalization.

Thanks for the info. I know I don't owe him any money, if anything he owes me for all the items (which were purchased during our time together) he sold after we seperated. I guess I'm just paranoid because if we do go ahead with our future plans obviously our joint income will be much higher than his and I'm worried he'll find a loophole and try to get money from me. Thanks again.

I am interested also. If the SS and equalization have been done, are there any risks to either moving in with someone or getting re-married? If she re-marries or moves in with someone my lawyer says this does not really affect the SS, so it would seem fair that my actions would not affect it either. On the other hand, I would have a higher family income at that point...
