Beside's a prenumptial agreement is there any other way i can protect my home in the event of divorce? I will be getting married later this year and have roughly $425K equity in my home. Thanks

The best way is to make sure that you both have the same equity in the matrimonial home before it becomes that. She contributes $212 to it, you take $212 out if it and put that into an investment that has you name on it before you get married.

I think this might work - I have been idly thinking about it.

And the prenup says that you buy her out of the home if you split.

your best bet is to talk to a lawyer and make sure it is iron clad and that she talks to one also. Congrats on ur upcoming marriage and for having the ability to think ahead, just in case.

Yep, go to a lawyer, no if's and's or but's. And make sure you disclose all your assets and income properly in the pre-nup.

Read this: (I know this guy)

CanLII - 2006 CanLII 31020 (ON SC)

It was appealed, but to no success.

Make sure your prenup is beyond ironclad, and it may be wise to even get a second opinion. This guy had a lawyer do his, and he still had big problems!
