Hi,
My trial judgement orders me to pay my ex X amount of dollars by way of RRSP spousal rollover. The same judgement also divorces me from my ex 31 days from the judgement date.
Initially my lawyer warned me that the rollover payment must be done within 30 days; i.e., before I am legally divorced, or Revenue Canada will tax me on it as a withdrawal from RRSP. Then later he said maybe not. Revenue Canada form T2220 - the one I have to fill out to execute a RRSP spousal rollover - does not mention a time limit.
Does anybody have any experience with this?
In particular, has anyone done a RRSP spousal rollover after their legal divorce became effective?
