a friend of mine was married 4 children for 20 yrs... one day she packed and left him and the kids... he paid out for 1/2 of the house to her which was quit a large amount of money, she has had no contact with any of them for over a year...about a month ago she reapeared and conviced one of the girls to go with her now she is broke and wants spousal support and child support... the girl will be 18 in feb. and has not been attending school.. the other thing is she paid him nothing for over a year... does he have a fighting chance

Your friend may be able to claim retroactive child support for the time he looked after the children without any financial support. There's a discussion about this here:

After a 20-year marriage, the ex-wife will have an entitlement to spousal support. Conduct is irrelevant in determining spousal support, so the fact that one day she packed and left him with the kids doesn't matter for this. However, paying for the 3 kids takes priority and I would think that with a single dad raising 3 kids, for most people there's not much money left over for spousal support. The courts are going to want to make sure that the children are properly looked after before they worry about spousal support. But the amount of spousal support is going to depend on a lot of things, particularly how much the parents are earning.
Also, the mother would be required to pay child support for the 3 children.
