    What happens if a person's estranged spouse refuses to give up the marriage certificate? In the Alberta Self-divorce Kit, it states that the person filing the divorce must submit the marriage certificate along with filing the Statement of Claim.

    What if there is no way that the other person is willing to give up the certificate because they want to keep it as a "memento"? Can the Statement of Claim be filed anyway?

    I believe you can apply for one, for a cost, my husband had to do this for his divorce. I do not know if there is a Service Alberta online?
