  • car allowance and CS

    Hello,

Does anyone know if the car allowance is considered as income when calculating the amount for CS?

    Thanks

yes it is whereas it is taxable income at the end of the year and your tax return is what CS is based on not your monthly paystubs.......anything that is included on your income tax line 150 I believe is what CS is based on......

There is a worksheet for calculating income for child support purposes that lets you exclude certain expenses which are not really income.

For example, my partner recieves $1200/month taxable benefit for a vehicle from his employer. He had to purchase his own vehicle and drives about 800 kilometers a week for work. So the allowance is to cover the car payment (or lease) gas, insurance, repairs etc. so this income is not used to calculate income for CS purposes.

There is a form on the federal site to help you calculate income for CS purposes.
