Default Filming kids in a public pool

Not sure if this question belongs here. Anyways, does anyone happen to know if it is legal to film children swimming in a public pool? I noticed today while i had my 7 year old daughter in the swimming pool (situated in the middle of 4 apartment buildings) that a man seemed to be filming the kids while they swam. He was situated on his first floor balcony and by the way he had his hands it looked like he was concealing a small recording device (cellphone camera?). Just curious if this is legal. It is disgusting to think of what he would be using these videos for.

Public pool?
Doubt there's much you can do about it.

Call the police. Not 911. The general line, and ask to speak to a cop. Ask their opinion.

Check what the pool's policy is on having phones onsite. Most don't allow it in certain parts of the building although I don't think they'd ban them from the swimming areas.

Don't let the creeps of this world make you jaded - it was most likely innocent.

It's not allowed at the pools in the city I live (bylaw). Don't know how well it's enforced though -- I think the lifeguards first ask proud parents to not take pictures and if that doesn't work I guess they call police.
It's kinda unfair when you just want to take a picture of YOUR child in the pool, which is probably 99.99999999% of picture taking! :-)

it sounds like the guy was on his own apartment balcony so i dont think that pool policy would apply 2 him.

IMHO he may have been taking pics of his own kid or maybe there isnt even any camera whatever. None was seen so it is a slippery slope to be on if you accuse the guy of doing it and he was not up to anything at all.

Yup..memories of our children that we've been doing for decades...and our society is so pc and flips for one parent crying or being an ass. I'll take my pictures let them call the police I have nothing to hide. Put the friggin criminals in jail for Christ sakes!

Suppositions. I understand why you may be uncomfortable; stating that you were disgusted sends alarm bells off for me.

Could you not have approached the gentlemen and asked what he was doing? Could you perhaps make logic that he was covering it merely to block the sun?

I am not saying that such a situation was not "untoward". But filming children in a pool would not cause me to be suspicious without investigating further. These are children with swimsuits on, no? What created that disgust? An irrational fear?

Its a fear that's been getting to the point where we're going to be at a school play and will be told no pictures because some parent thinks that a sicko is going to throw them up on some kiddie porn site or something. We're engraving ourselves into these fears. To think that I am at a park with my boys playing or doing various fun things that when taking pictures that i can expect some person to tap on my shoulder and question me...Wtf is this world coming to?...and who's sick? We're a hostage in or own community, sounds like 911. Since that the government would be happy to keep us in fear...This way it justifies its huge spending and kick back contracts.

Although not a pool but similar like any other child's extra curricular; At my daughters last dance recital - Many parents had cameras and the like including myself and the practice was officially endorsed. I'm just happy that I was able to be there and capture her precious moments, after all, she is only seven once.
