  • Readers Digest: Myth of the Deadbeat

    Very interesting... and from 2001.

    http://www.readersdigest.ca/debate.html?a=v&di=118

It often see these things supporting my comments about how bad the system. I see the same story over and over, across the country, and now in a different time (2001). There is something wrong here!

    Decent Dad,

Interesting article with real life commentary.

To paraphrase the second paragraph of the article
In general, statistics indicate that between 85 to 91 percent of Canadian children covered either by private or court-ordered child-support agreements actually receive payments, the vast majority receiving regular support payments. And statistics also reveal the close association between the regularity of payment and the frequency of contact between fathers and their children.

This was* also concluded by Bala, N. and Miklas, S. in their February 1993 report "Rethinking decisions about children: Is the "best interest of the child" approach really in the best interest of children?"

    * Not particularly "fathers" but "parents"

A number of cases refer to this report at canlaw.
