  • Protest - Friday November 19th 7 pm

On November 19th a group of parents and grandparents will hold a candlelight vigil for parents who have lost the right to parent their children.

The vigil will be a candlelight walk, starting at 7 pm, from the Human Rights Monument on Elgin Street in Ottawa to the National War Memorial, on Elgin at Wellington. (candles and protest signs provided) The vigil and walk is to draw attention to the fact that more children have lost parents to the adversarial family law system than to all the wars combined.

Universal Child Day, often called National Child Day, or International Child Day, is held on Nov 20th each year, and is recognized by the United Nations.

November 19th is also International Men’s Day and this year’s theme is “fathers and their children.” This is a day to demonstrate against the Ontario judge, Alfred Stong, who attempted to excuse a confessed multiple murderer of children and to shift the blame to an innocent father.

That's interesting. Where did you get that fact?

Did you find it necessary to throw in a link that refers to a story that, while horribly tragic, has absolutely nothing to do with what you are talking about? Did you think that by inserting an inflammatory reference to a story of mental illness gone very very wrong that you would somehow be able to get people to tie the two issues together in some twisted cause and effect way?

    That's disgusting. Shame on you.

Horrendous tragic story... but the venue is a worthy cause for all parents.

I don't know, but considering the witness list and submission -- It appears, the defense lawyer failed with a ploy for acquittal by reason of insanity concerning their client. Thankfully, they were convicted. For the other parent, I can only imagine their grief concerning their loss. My condolences.

Not much the defense could do strategically. She admitted that she did it.

The horrible insult to unimaginable injury in that case was the way the judge blamed the father after the verdict was read, and then tried to deny him his right to a victim impact statement.

That judge should be put to pasture on those comments alone. What a complete idiot.
