  • Who would you recommend?

    Hello there,

Do any of you folks have any recommendations for:

    (1). Divorce lawyer; &/or

(2). Accountant (or Divorce Financial Specialist/Certified Divorce Financial Analyst).

    The criteria are:
(a). Location (city) does not matter but need to be licensed to practice in Ontario (where the divorce is). Again, any city but Toronto/ON, BC and elsewhere are fine if licensed for ON

(b). Specialization in complex finances and domestic/marriage contracts (e.g., complex finances including divorce and privately-held small businesses (Ontario corporations), etc.)

(c). “Medium” size firm (good skills without the large law firm BS and fees)

    Thanks so much!
P.S. I have “private email” and “private messaging” enabled on this site, so if you’re more comfortable with that vs a public reply, please feel free. Thanks

#1 don't trust the other lawyer. Do not agree for them to be able to pick the firm to determine your businesses worth.
I would call lawyers offices and ask who they recommend.

Family lawyer here. I have worked with all of the below and have confidence in their skills:

All three are comfortable with complex family files and going against larger firms.

I am not recommending myself (as it's self serving), and I have no financial interest in any of the above firms.

There are many other good family lawyers, so if you don't fit with any of the above keep looking. I would suggest someone with at least 10 years of experience, but you won't need more than that. Ideally someone who has done a couple of complex financial trials, but also knows the value of mediation/ADR.
