Brampton, Ontario court officials continue to obstruct justice by misleading and misinforming the public about their rights

(April 13, 2010) In spite of reports of threats and harassment against members of the public by court officials at the Brampton, Ontario courthouse in the past, Canada Court Watch has learned that high ranking officials (who should know better) continue to misquote the law and mislead the public about their rights to use their own recording devices when attending their own court hearings.

Senior staff, including police, continue to insist that it is against the law for parties to record their court hearing and that electronic recording devices are prohibited in the court, even by those in their own court hearings. Officials quote the Courts of Justice Act but the Act states the opposite to what court officials are stating. Court officials state that Justice Durno had ordered all recording devices to be kept out. Yet the courts are public buildings and Justice Durno cannot issue orders that contradict the law.

Without doubt a number of high ranking and high paid officials at the Brampton courthouse are misinforming the public and this is totally unacceptable. Those responsible should be fired immediately as their actions are obstructing the administration of Justice and making a mockery out of freedom and democracy in Canada.

Hopefully, the Premier of Ontario will take steps to fix this problem very soon....
