  • Spousal Support and Retirement

    My stbx is retired and when we had been together we were living off of my spousal RRSP account. He has a very large amount of funds in accounts in his name only that weren't touched.

    My question is: In calculating SS, are bank account balances considered? As I had mentioned, he is retired.

    Thank you.

    Given that those funds would be accounted for during equalization, I imagine it would be double dipping to consider the same funds for SS.

        Blink;

        Thank you for your succinct explanation. I had briefly read about double dipping earlier (regarding pensions) but it wasn't really clear. I understood your explanation perfectly.
