  • Legal entitlement for common law separation

Hi all, I have been in a common law relationship for a little more than 3 years. We are likely to separate soon.

As part of the separation agreement, will we be equalizing our assets (pensions, insurance policies etc) as part of the agreement? Am I entitled to spousal support?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Hard to imagine that a common law short term union could give rise to anything significant vis a vis SS.

Not unless you did something drastic like quit your well paying job and move across the country so that you could support him while he went to med school... or something like that..., or maybe if you have some disability that prevents you from working.
