    It does seem odd. Maybe it happened that way because there was more disincentive to not paying the mortgage (bank goes after you, credit rating tanks) than there is for not paying CS.

    Hmmm. An outstanding CS obligation should show up on credit checks! Don't pay it, and your credit rating is affected. And arrears should show up as a debt.
