Great Antiphons of Advent (O Antiphons) - YouTube
Taking you back a few centuries so you can hear The Great Antiphons of Advent meant to be sung 1 a day leading up to Christmas Eve (starting December 17th). They are repetitive and just plain song chant, but they are supposed to be that way. They are supposed to be meditations.
O come O come Emanuel is based on these antiphons.
Here are the translations for those want them.
O Sapientia (Dec 17)
O Wisdom, coming forth from the mouth of the Most High,
reaching from one end to the other,
mightily and sweetly ordering all things:
Come and teach us the way of prudence.
O Adonai (Dec 18)
O Adonai, and leader of the House of Israel,
who appeared to Moses in the fire of the burning bush
and gave him the law on Sinai:
Come and redeem us with an outstretched arm.
O Radix Jesse (Dec 19)
O Root of Jesse, standing as a sign among the peoples;
before you kings will shut their mouths,
to you the nations will make their prayer:
Come and deliver us, and delay no longer.
O Clavis David (Dec 20)
O Key of David and sceptre of the House of Israel;
you open and no one can shut;
you shut and no one can open:
Come and lead the prisoners from the prison house,
those who dwell in darkness and the shadow of death.
O Oriens (Dec 21)
O Morning Star,
splendour of light eternal and sun of righteousness:
Come and enlighten those who dwell in darkness and the shadow of death.
O Rex Gentium (Dec 22)
O King of the nations, and their desire,
the cornerstone making both one:
Come and save the human race,
which you fashioned from clay.
O Emmanuel (Dec 23)
O Emmanuel, our king and our lawgiver,
the hope of the nations and their Saviour:
Come and save us, O Lord our God.

Bwv140 - Kantat - 04 - Koro - Zion hört die Wächter singe - YouTube
Zion hears the watchmen singing
The maidens’ hearts with joy are springing
They wake and quickly to Him go.
Their Friend comes in Heav’nly splendor
With graceful strength, with mercy tender
Their light is bright, their star doth glow.
Now come, thou worthy One;
Lord Jesus, God’s own Son
Hosanna!
We follow all
To that glad hall
To our Lord’s table we are called.

Since this has turned into another sleepless night I'll post another video.
Ave Maria - YouTube
If you ever get the chance to hear this live in a church that has a half decent acoustic take it, you won't regret it.

I was thinking about you and your singing the other day. I did something I haven't done in many many years. I went to the legislative building & grounds in our city and walked through the grounds and enjoyed the beautiful lights. I then went inside the building and listened to some choirs with featured soloists. Beautiful music. Nice way to spend an otherwise cold winter evening.
Thanks again for the music links.

My Pleasure...
Here is a piece of music that I first sang when I was 19 and has a really special place in my heart. The crescendo in the middle of the piece (~1:45 in this recording) gives me shivers every time I hear (or sing) it. It is the Ave Maria text sung in Church Slavonic hope you enjoy.

Just finished a series of three Christmas concerts. These were hsoue concerts, small audiences, food afterwards, mixing with the audience.
The highlight of last night was that we added some special verses to the Gloucester Wassail that we conjured up over the last few days, and it is good to see the conductor turn red. Many laughs were shared.
We did mostly older carols, obscure ones. We had choir members playing guitar, recorders, drums as well as the harpsicord that we traditionally use.

I'm sorry I didn't continue doing this so to make up for it I'm resurrecting this old thread now ;-)
With Easter this weekend I thought I would post some of my favorite music usually sung throughout the last 40 days.
There are a couple different settings of the same text because I choose just one to post.
Enjoy and Happy Easter.
