  • Common law division of pension

Can anyone tell me if, in Ontario, a common law partner has legal rights to a portion of the other partner's pension in the event of separation

I'm pretty sure they do. At least I know someone who is going after her ex-common-law's pension.

Common law is different than marriage. Marriage, absolutely, but you may only be entitled to a portion of the pension you were together. If you were together a short time, then i seriously doubt you are entitled to anything, perhaps long term you may have a case, but if yo have a pension, than he would be entitled to your portion as well.
