  • Can minor child request support?

I have a question about a family member in my wife's family....

Is a 15 year old who has been kicked out of his house by his mom, no contact with dad for 8 years able to ask for support? He has been abused emotionally, psychologically his whole life and was recently physically assaulted by his mom's partner but won't report it because he is afraid of what his mom would do. This is not the first time he has been kicked out, last time was in February during minus 40 with no cell phone. He was kicked out for being lazy and disrespectful (sleeping in till noon and not caring for his siblings all day/every day during online school the last couple weeks)

He has 3 younger siblings who have different fathers, and the partner is new (a couple years).

It's a pandemic, he is currently sleeping on various friends couches, and he's supposed to back to in-class learning on Tuesday...

    Possibly.

They should contact Legal Aid Alberta:

Not sure what the age limit is. If he's still too young, someone would have to be his guardian (possibly friend's parents) and they could claim support.
