  • ‘Whoever abducts the child first is going to get custody’: Canadian man fights Japan

    From the National Post:

‘Whoever abducts the child first is going to get custody’: Canadian man fights Japan for access to son | National Post

Terstege, 42, formerly of Barrie, Ont., officially has 24 hours a year access to his son, Liefie, a dual Canadian-Japanese citizen. But he doesn’t know exactly where his wife or child are and the courts have not been of help. It’s the Japanese way, he said.

So what good is the Hague Convention if parents in other countries can just not comply with it's principles?

However, enforcement is woefully inadequate and a parent can frustrate court orders to return a child simply by refusing to comply, experts say.
Harsher consequences. I'm a victim of child abduction and it's the ugliest thing a person can go through.

We get tickets for jaywalking but parents can take and hide children to create false status quo's in the absence of any abuse, etc or evidence thereof. We need change BADLY!!
