My son was prescribed orthotics from family dr. I have some coverage. I made dad aware of the extra that won’t be covered. $150-200$ He says he does not consent unless I take him to a podiatrist?? Like really? Our son’s feet are in pain?

Also my son requested to go back to therapy.. does dad need to be informed? Or only if I expect him to pay for it?

why does your son need orthotics? I am with your ex on this. If your son needs orthotics then it is best to go to a specialist who can properly diagnosis and fit the child.

If your son wants to go back to therapy then yes Dad should be informed and I am thinking that he should be responsible for some of the cost.

I work in the benefits industry. Orthotics are typically covered by plans when prescribed by a physician, podiatrist chiropodist and sometimes chiropractor. A prescription from a physician with a medical diagnosis should be sufficient. I don't see any reasons why that wouldn't be acceptable.

Thank you. It was a family dr and paediatrician agreed. You can clearly see my son walks in on his ankles. And he has decent running shoes. Also where I plan to take my son to get fitted or assessed is a place called Bioped. Where they do a full assessment and actually see if they agree the person needs something or something different.

          Thanks for your input.
My sons feet are hurting him. Dr assessed him. Felt the pressure points on his feet. Determined his feet are flat. Said orthotics would help relieve the pressure and realign so he would not have the pain he is experiencing.

Dad has been informed in a text saying here is the therapists name. It’s same one we used in the past. Dad has met her. And to please contact her with any questions. He refuses to pay any therapy. Even though the children struggled in school and school social worker recommended it as well as family dr.

Joint custody or sole custody? He should be informed prior to regardless, and be given a chance to have some input. You need to ask him before hand if you expect him to pitch in.

Lastly, what does your order say about S7 expenses?

Sole custody. I made dad aware of what the dr said and that a prescription was given. I have not purchased anything yet as I asked for dads thoughts first. Told dad my coverage is $300 of which I pay all the benefits for. And agreement says share equally the cost of medical expenses not covered by insurance.

Our sons feet hurt. To the point he won’t stand in his soccer shoes to continue his soccer game. Tried dr sholes insoles and it hasn’t gotten any better.

Dad says he does not consent to this now so now our is suffers? Or once again as a caring mother doing what is best for the children I am on the hook for the whole amount again. Life is so unfair.

that is a very good idea. Just going to the local walmart for inserts could do more damage then good.

I have plantar fasciitis. When I went to my normal doctor because my foot hurt she had xrays done, said it was heel spurs and said lose weight. Never mentioned orthotics or anything.

On my own I went to a specialist recommended to me by numerous people. He did treatments, gave me exercises for the foot fitted me for my inserts and gave me medication for the pain on the first visit. Anytime I sat down for lunch or break at work I could barely walk when I got up. After work it took everything I had to walk from my car and into my house. I told him what my doctor said about losing weight and he said that he sees people of all shapes and sizes with this condition and that weight wasnt an issue. Not that I am obese, but I do carry a few extra pounds.

My doctor for the most part is good for what I need. I felt like more could be done then just lose weight so I looked for a person who specializes in foot problems. Glad I did or who knows how badly my feet would of been screwed up.

Does your ex know that you are taking the child to basically a place the knows their stuff in regards to what your son needs?

Well that was the reason for asking his thoughts. I didn’t even have a chance to do anything. Just was making him aware. I feel like they twist what I do. All I know is our kid is in pain. And will do anything to help him.

My 2 c worth is this:

I had tremendous pain in my foot years ago. I went to a foot clinic and was told I needed inserts. I purchased those and my foot became more painful. I then requested my family physician refer me to an orthopedic surgeon. Problem wasn't plantar fasciitis (that podiatrist had determined) but rather bone spurs and bunion. Surgeon was highly critical of podiatrist recommending the inserts and said it likely made things worse.

I'd recommend taking your son to orthopedic surgeon for a second opinion.

In my opinion you did everything right. You're a caring parent trying to do what's best for your child. I find it frustrating if/when the other parent isn't on board with these type of things. It should all be about what's in the child's best interest and agree if the kid needs orthotics, the solution should be simple. If they require therapy and it would benefit them then of course. You do what's best for your child.

The place we will go for the orthotics does a complete assessment done by a specialist. His ankles fall inward. The physician said he has mild flat feet. So not sure we need to go to a surgeon at this point. He just wants to even out his pressure points in lifting up his arch a bit. The best part is the email response from dad came from gf ? It’s dads email. But it proves she wrote it on her device as he heading is her name. :-/

Thank you. I hope a judge sees me as this as dad is trying to paint me as an alienating monster. His response shows he isn’t putting our children first.

This seems to be the battle cry for dads who don’t want to pay. I’m alienated from my kids so I shouldn’t have to pay cs or medical expenses. Hopefully your next judge sees through this bs. This isn’t a case of expensive camp, its orthotics to help his turned over ankles. Just keep documenting everything, get a second opinion if necessary and add it to your brief.

Thanks Rockscan. I just feel so discouraged at this point. Sent their response to lawyer. Haven’t heard back yet.

ugh. this is why I'm pushing for sole custody with parallel parenting possible. I do not want to set up for a battle for the next 18 years everytime I have to make a medical appointment.
