Perhaps "customer relations" ploy is more descriptive? Who knows.
GTA V is yet to come out for certain "newer generation" game consoles. Maybe that has something to do with it. But yes, it's not a new game, and has been available on other platforms since 2013.

Grand Theft Auto V (Xbox One) : Xbox One Games - Best Buy Canada

It is out now for xBox One and PS4. Has been for for a while I believe (at least a few months, thus the majority of sales are likely done).

I am fascinated that you can conjure up moral outrage over Links supposedly minimizing violence against women by posting this thread, yet have no trouble with minimizing violence against children by lumping those who play this game into the same category as child molesters.

Shameful.

Hmm, must just be PC version still coming out then. So yeah, makes you wonder why bother now, even more?

Definitely no GTA V for Nintendo coming out anytime soon...or ever. lol.

Nope, not in the least. I'm not sure what I ever said to give you that impression. I'm not comfortable with anything that depicts crime in an enjoyable light, no matter the gender and age of the victim. The objectification of women is just one facet of that.

A driving game where you hijack cars by yanking the drivers out at gunpoint, then drive through malls and run pedestrians down, and visit prostitutes but rob or shoot them instead of paying them? No.

A driving game where you pick from a bunch of different vehicles, then drive around weird race courses or cities without pedestrians where you have to knock barrels over, and rescue people from danger? Sure.

My ex played GTA, and I found the things the game encouraged the player to do to be truly disturbing. I should have taken it as an early red flag about him that he did not!

Adults have to make their own educated decisions about what they are willing to enjoy and support, and make those decisions on behalf of their minor children.

Maybe it took Target so long to remove the game simply because their decision-makers never knew the nature of GTA's content till now. Or maybe their decision-makers were profit-driven instead of socially driven and didn't see the benefit pendulum swing far enough until now.

I like how you put it, it is a customer relations ploy. They've made the vast majority of their sales, and now get to look good by feigning like they give a damn.

If they really had issue with the game, they've stopped selling GTA 1 10 years ago when it first came out. Because every GTA since then has been more of the same.

Much like watching child porn. It is so damn wrong.
Depends on your definition of violence.

I've killed tens of thousands online, as a online war gamer.

I've never been in a fight other than with my brothers. When my ex dug her nails into my arm until I bled, I didn't fight back.

My kids have played world or warcraft and other fantasy games, and my son plays first person shooters. None of them would harm a fly in real life.

GTA is a fantasy as well, but it is a fantasy filled with crime, and mysogyny. I don't think playing it qualifies one as a mysoginist, but it may desensitize someone to think that kind of behaviour is common, not necessarily acceptable, but common.

I've seen lots of bad behaviour among gamers, and as an admin, I banned more than a few for it. Because there weren't many female gamers that were identifiable, it was fairly rare to ban for that reason, but there were some. More often I'd ban because someone called another player a racist name or some other nasty name. many of those things I banned for are part of GTA, or so I am given to understand (haven't played it myself).

GTA has been out for 17 years or so in one form or another. It wouldn't take them that long to figure out it is bad.

And domestic violence has been a real issue longer than that. It has also been a very visual issue, with lots of coverage of the evils it entails etc. I don't believe this has anything to do with a pendulum swinging. If anything it may have to do with an overhaul of the brass at Target and now wanting to appear more sensitive. But the issue of violence against women and domestic violence has been a hot button topic for some time now, much longer than this game (in any of its variants) has existed.

Only online game I've played recently is Destiny (a futuristic first person shooter). I'm not very good at online Player v Player. But I guess I could've been violent against women in the game (Destiny allows players to be women) as after I killed a couple I danced (the game has dance function) and a few others I tea-bagged. Although, I will admit to being an equal opportunity ahole as I have danced and tea-bagged both sexes.
