  • Getting laid-off, EI, and Legal Aid

My current situation is NCP,living in Ontario, and self-repped (because that's all I can afford) and I'm currently making a little too much to be getting Legal Aid.

My questions are: 1) Can you get legal aid when you're on EI? 2) How long after you've been laid-off can you apply for legal aid? 3) Can anyone tell me, from their experience, how they went about it?

I'll be calling the Legal Aid office at the Family Law centre to ask those same questions, but I also want to hear from people here.

    Thanks!

    1. Yes, you can get Legal Aid when you are on E.I. but you still need to meet their qualifications. I was on E.I. and still didn't qualify for Legal Aid because they said I was $1,000 over their limit.

    2. You can apply for Legal Aid at any time.

    3. Go to a Legal Aid office.
