I'll say it like it is.

If you're dad, you have better chances at winning the lottery than winning any kind of child custody in Canadian family courts.

If you're dad, and you are sharing custody, you have better chances at winning the lottery than getting an agreement that gives you an offset in child support or makes you both eligible for child tax benefits.

If you're dad, you are risk of being taken in custody for failing to pay child support. In fact, this is the only type of custody that you can very easily earn.

Lastly, if you're dad, you must continue to push and pressure the courts with requests for at minimum shared custody and some sort of decision making authority for your children.

There is a family law crisis in Canada. We must use this opportunity to overburden the courts and our judges and force them into defeat. I think it won't be long before they realize their bias in continuing to rule in a mother's favour in the vast majority of the cases they reside in.

But we must do so in a friendly but firm way. I will never forget the moment my lawyer was so fed up in one of my motions that he had to say "every father I know of has to pick another day to celebrate Christmas on" - and I will never forget to look on the judges face when that comment was made. It fixed the judge up and I surely was granted access on Christmas, as a dad.

Don't give up. Keep fighting for what is right. Nothing feels better than justice.

I personally know of two men who have full custody of their children. In one case the mother was a drug addict and in the other she had walked away in order to “find herself”.

One of these fathers has experience in several court jurisdictions and commented that in one the judges were biased against men and in another against women.

Yes the family court system is broken and unfair. Not just against one sex. it’s biased against whoever is the most co-operative and reasonable party in the litigation.
