    I was married in Victoria BC Canada. I live in Oregon and need to file for divorce. I have been married for 6 months. I have no means of income whilst in this marriage and i will be returning home to australia soon. does he have a legal obligation to support me. i gave up my job, and all material possessions.

    Where you get a divorce is normally based on residency. If both you and your spouse live in Oregon, you'd need to apply there for a divorce. It appears that there is a 6-month residency requirement in Oregon for a divorce:

    If your spouse is still in Victoria, you may be able to apply for divorce there, provided your spouse has been ordinarily resident in BC for one year.

    Spousal support would be determined by the location where you're applying for divorce. There's some interesting information about Oregon spousal support here:

    It sounds like you gave up a job in Australia to move to Canada to marry. If this is the case, at least in Canada, courts would consider how hard it is for your to resume your employment. Being out of the workforce for 6 months normally would not significantly impact your employment prospects.
