That is a fair question iona. My son and I have both been researching. At this point mostly looking for advice or how to proceed and information about how the whole system works. He has also reached out to a lawyer and a support group for divorced dads. Part of it is financial. He makes too much to qualify for legal aid (barely) but previous legal and mediation costs have only recently been paid off leaving him financially stretched. Having had to withdraw from mediation due to lack of money the first time around, it is important to him he is financially prepared to see this through. He will have one shot to get this right. If not it would be years before he has the funds to try again.
I am here on this particular site because I used it as a resource when my son was going through his divorce.
