Is it possible to get the court hearing transcripts without having to pay?

  • #2
No unless you have a lawyer who is willing to eat the bill.

Transcriptionists have to live and eat and pay rent just like you do, They are typically self-employed people contracted to the court.

You can ask for portions of your trial (specific days or 1/2 days) to be transcribed though.

The judge can order the transcript to be provided, however they will only do this in very limited circumstances.

Transcripts are usually not made. If a judge has reserved on a motion then they listen to the audio, not a transcript. Hence transcripts have to be specially ordered, and cost about $3-5 per page. In the ordinary flow of things, people generate about 125-175 pages per day of testimony.
