30 yrs ago if someone made 30k/yr it was looked at in the same way. First year lawyers were lucky to make that much. (as an example). So now what happens to that person who made 28k a year, quit work to stay home with the kids? They could have easily been making 60k or more today.
This is essentially part of the argument IN FAVOR of SS.
