  • Legal fees when selling house?

Approximately how much can one expect to pay in legal fees when they sell a house? How about when they purchase a house? (I think I paid around $800 legal fees when I purchased, but that was years ago.) But just hoping to get a rough idea of current fees for selling and for buying...

    Thanks.

Legal fees are approx $1500.00 to 2500.00 depends on the lawyer. When purchasing a home you must also pay land transfer tax which is approx 1.5%. The sell of a house is less work for the lawyer so it shouldn't cost has much.

      laywer fees

Legal fees for selling are typically same as buying except for the land transfer tax which doesn't apply. This is for Ontario. I believe Quebec has a completely different system. The one thing to be carefull of is the dispersments that the lawyer may charge. There is generally a fee for every check he has to write. You would be best to talk to a real Estate Lawyer on this. I know a few if you need on ein the Ottawa area who are quite reasonable.

It can very a lot, depending on where you live. I don't do real estate law, but in one recent matrimonial case the real estate lawyer charged $1,500 and that seems to be about typical. This was legal fees + disbursements + GST.
