  • Reiteration of the Rules

I would think a lot of this goes without saying, but just a reminder for everyone:

    1. No personal attacks and no name calling.

    2. It's a legal forum, so you're permitted to attack a person's *argument.* This is much different from attacking a *person*, which is not permitted.

Note that someone disagreeing with you, or giving you advice that you don't like, or stating that your case is weak are not considered personal attacks, particularly if the disagreement, advice, or statement is backed up. You need to have a bit of a thick skin and accept that people have different points of view. Also, it is better that your argument get shredded here, than in court by a judge.

    3. There's a separate forum for political issues:
Political Issues - Ottawa Divorce .com Forums

This is more of a rough and tumble forum, and is there to deal with more controversial / political / emotional discussions and debates. The other forums are intended to be help and support forums, where people discuss problems, concerns, legal issues, etc. and get help, guidance, and support.

    4. There's a "Report Post" alarm icon at the top of every post. If someone breaks a rule, it's preferable that you simply click that rather than start an argument in the thread. If you click the icon, all the mods and I get an email, and someone should be available soon to deal with it. If no one deals with it, it likely means we don't agree that there is a problem (or it's the middle of the night and we're all asleep).

    5. Many or most of the people on the forum are going through one of the most incredibly difficult periods in their life. They are losing their family, kids, financial situation, possibly their home and job, and having to deal with expensive lawyers, and an impersonal legal system. Even if you don't agree with them, at least try to understand where they are coming from, and why they are acting the way they are and thinking the things they do.

Is there gender parity amongst the mods?

You've been around long enough to know the answer to that.
