  • Children's Fitness Tax Credit

Can an NCP claim the Federal Children's Fitness Tax Credit on their return or is this something only a CP or the parent with the lower net income can claim (like childcare expenses)?

Only the CP can claim the fitness credit. However, that credit needs to be worked into the figures when determining each parents proportional share.

If the activity is $500 (the max credit) and you each make the same amount of money and the credit gives the CP $75 back. The actual cost of the activity (not including any other tax rebates) is $425, which you split 50/50.

Essentially, your ex pays more up front, but gets it back at tax time.
