  • adult child depressed

    Good morning,
For any of you who have been following my child support variance it has turned into a nightmare. First of all we had the paternity test done and as predicted he is the father. He has now estranged himself from my daughter as he claims she likes my current husband more?? She has become very depressed and is in therapy.
She has graduated high school and is currently doing attempting to do some courses to keep up her academics. She is thinking about quitting as she cannot concentrate.
I am obviously concerned about her best interests, but here is my question. After fighting and gaining some ground by having child support increased, will it now stop if she has to quit school due to depression caused by him?
Also she is starting university in the fall and we have to go back to court in order to get special expenses for that!

CS continues until she is finished an undergraduate degree. But you should be preparing yourself for that time, when she will cease to be a child of the marriage, and when CS will terminate.

OH absolutely, income is not the issue once she completes her studies. I am a college teacher and social worker..she has always been very well taken care of on my income...its just that after spending all the money on the variance I wanted to know how to proceed. He makes over $100k so he is not a poor ol dad. Also, as she is 18, do I need to report that she may not be in school full time until September?

You need to tell your ex if she doesn't go to school. The court is only there to resolve your differences if you can't agree yourselves. It is incumbent upon the two of you to work it out. If she goes to school and he refuses to pay then you go to court.
