I noted that ADD diagnosis came around the time when McDonalds and other fast-food businesses were becoming popular. I often wonder if it was a coincidence?

Thank you for all of your responses. We have had 2 doctors diagnose my son and both are adamant that he be treated. Based on our SA we would end up in mediation before any court action could be taken. I am hoping that my ex will agree after we meet with the doctor one more time.
My son is a good kid but the signs are there and its hard to relay over a web forum but we are seeing all of the signs of this condition. In fact, I think that we both waited too long and should have acted a long time ago and started him on meds when we were still married. He is my adopted son, I have been with him since he was born and he is a great kid but he is definitely different than most other children. I know all kids are different but my younger son who is biologically mine, is a lot easier to handle. My oldest sons biological father had very similar problems as a child as. Once his bio dad became a teenager he went down a bad path that eventually led him to jail and many legal problems. Not to say anything bad about him, but the truth is he leads the kind of life I would never want for my son. That being said, they are 2 different people and there is no proof that my son will turn out that way.
I think a big problem is that so many parents play the ADHD card and so many doctors diagnose it, that when a real case comes up, you get some outsiders who think its bogus.
Thanks for all your replies!

My daughter ,when younger was incredibly difficult to handle. I asked her doctor, a highly respected pediatrician, to deal with it or I may lose my mind.
Color, especially red dyes, found in everything were a huge part of the issue. Also pop, he suggested only ginger ale or anything clear, no ketchup, no red jams, no kraft dinner, all processed garbage that's easy for us but bad for them....you get the picture.
Totally different child when we took these things out of her diet. Also we didn't do it all at once, no need to shock the system of a young child. I do believe and have seen some children that do have ADD/ADHD and do understand that sometimes medication is the only way but search your options for the best interest of the child.

^agree - your family physician can help you out with a plan for a reverse allergy test in that you eliminate things out of the diet and environment. Food coloring and processed meats (deli counter luncheon meat) are notorious for being primary sources of physiological problems.
ADD and Asperger's Syndrome are no laughing matters. I know several people who have life challenges with children beset with these disorders.
