I'm sorry to hear of your situation. It sounds like you have obtained your PERMANENT RESIDENT status - the next step would be to obtain Canadian Citizenship, if you wanted to. Your husband would have signed form IMM1344 B - Sponsorship Agreement - this means that he is bound by the Canadian government to provide for your basic requirements (& your family member's basic requirements if they were sponsored by him as well) from the day you entered Canada with a temp Resident permit for a period of three years. "Basic Requirements" is defined as: food, shelter, clothing, fuel, utilities, household supplies, personal requirements and health care not provided by public health, including dental care and eye care. He also promised that you would not need to seek social assistance due to him caring for you. This undertaking is "unconditional and may not be terminated. Under no circumstances does the granting of Canadian citizenship, divorce, seperation or relationship breakdown, financial deterioration or moving to another province cancel the undertaking". So, my dear, it is very clearly spelled out in the undertaking that he signed. He is responsible for you. I hope that gives you some peace. Oh, also, in case it gets "ugly" a sponsor CANNOT force Citizenship and Immigration Canada to remove you from Canada.
All of this is available on the Citizenship and Immigration Canada website.

I am well versed in Immigration laws - have been dealing with them for 23 yrs.
