  • phone call from services juridiques quebec

this is my first time posting:

I got a call in French (I'm in Quebec) from "services juridiques quebec" yesterday. The person asked me for my work and home address, because apparently I have a court date and they tried serving papers at my old address. The only information they gave me was that the "opposant" was "my ex's name". We have been separated for about 1 year and a half. They said it will take 4 to 6 weeks to receive the papers at my current address.

Today I heard from a friend that she went on welfare for about 2 or 3 months. I sponsored her to come to Canada, so I signed an undertaking with the government, which means I'm responsible for her expenses until August 2024. So I will be obligated to reimburse the welfare payments she receives. My friend also told me that she met with a lawyer yesterday from legal aid.

I want to know, is this the normal procedure the Quebec government uses to recover welfare payments ? Or could this have been a call from legal aid ? I don't know which government agency or ministry it was, and they wouldn't tell me anything other than my ex's name. The number was blocked.

thanks for any insight into this.
